Make a little room for God.
A friendship that grew
Born in Ávila in 1515, Teresa entered Carmelite life as a young woman. Serious illness and spiritual struggles shaped her journey. She came to understand prayer as a personal friendship with God.
A simpler way of life
In 1562, she founded a reformed Carmelite convent in Ávila. She wanted a life rooted in prayer, humility, simplicity and love for one another. With St. John of the Cross, she helped renew the Carmelite family.
Words that still guide us
Teresa wrote about her experiences to help others grow in prayer. Her books include The Way of Perfection and The Interior Castle. In 1970, she was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church.
